The pot's still not boiling.

No recent news really. The relative joy of the good news last Monday quickly went away later in the week as the feeling returned that nothing has really changed for all intents and purposes. We still don't know how long this is going to take and whether it will be pretty simple and trouble-free. I guess we can't be told the latter, but the former we would like at least a guess! Diana is working on getting the Estonians to find out a general range so we have a basic idea.

Meanwhile, Jason has trouble maintaining confidence that we will EVER get the kids, despite what we are told. So the battle to stay positive is a constantly fought one. It's just a tough situation to be in... hands tied, no kids, waiting waiting, waiting. We did get into this for the purpose of adopting a child, not to be committed to unavailable kids. But that's what we are.

Well... technically they're not "unavailable." They are just suffering the same delay we suffer, but probably with even less knowledge and maybe with less worry than we have. Their emails lately have been pretty much the same. They told us in one that they can write us a letter to send in the mail if they can write it in Russian. We told them they can write it in Russian and we'll get it translated here. I kind of think that that's why we haven't gotten anything else in the mail from them - maybe no one has been around to translate the letter for them like the first one was. I think we might be getting pictures in the mail from them soon, though. One of their emails said something like that.

All for now. If anything is new I'll post it here right away. But in the meantime, try not to worry and try not to be so anxious.

We have a distraction for now, though - a close friend is going through stress and heartbreak of a different kind, of similar severity. So tears and hugs all around!

Love,
Molly

I guess it is too late to give up now. You promised the kids and until Estonia tells you and them "NO" and why, you are committed. Maybe if Diana calls them every day, something more definite in the way of timing will present itself.

I might be overly complex in my thinking, but wondering if there is some way for Diana to break down this waiting into manageable proportions. What I mean is: Is there an overall plan of action?
What are the steps, who manages each step and what is estimated time of each step? What is status of each step as it is started, in progress, and completed? I know this sounds ridiculously analytical, but if the Estonians would cooperate, it could help close the void incrementally, like a timeline of what has to be done in its entirety and where you are each step of the way. Of course, that might drive you more crazy, but for somebody as process-obsessed as I am it could be a helpful thing, especially if different offices are involved. That could help identify if somebody is stalling or not doing anything at all. Also wondering if this is something Diana ever encountered or is uncharted waters for everybody including the Estonians? Of course, with the mother dead, I don't understand why they just can't do whatever they were doing before - set a court date, turn them over and let you two figure out how to get them out of the country? Anyway, you are probably always emailing Diana, maybe you could run this past her and see what she says.

I sure hope that things proceed soon! I'm terrified that Oskar might be Russian now lol. I wish I could give you a hug. I'll be praying that things turn around soon!

Thanks Shea! I have no idea if anyone else will have this problem. It's my understanding that it's a unique combination of things that caused this, not just their Russian heritage. So I wouldn't worry about Oskar. Thanks for your hopes and wishes! :)

Hi Kathy,
Process obsessed or not, I know we won't find out any info anywhere close to a step by step of what they're doing. I don't even think we'll be able to find out what they're doing NOW. Language barriers, cultural differences, or something - but we won't learn much before we hear that it's just fixed.
Sorry!! Sorry for us too. LOL
Love,
Molly

You know me, always trying to turn over all the stones. Hopefully Diana will keep in close contact with Estonia to make sure SOMETHING is being done. I don't like or trust unique combinations of anything. How unique can these kids be?

Sorry I spelled a word wrong. My question is "So how do you know they are doing anything at all? What did Diana say they are actually going to do?"

They're getting their Estonian citizenships and passports, and then they'll be all set for adoption and immigration. We still aren't clear what exactly makes this unusual, or if this will be the case for many Russian speaking kids in Estonia. I think it might have to do with the fact that they are not only stateless, but neither parent was Estonian. I don't know for sure though. I hope I can find out! Not that it'll make a difference, except just understanding the problem a little more.
We try not to be too "Why why why why?" because we probably won't find out or understand either way, and it won't change anything. So Diana is staying on top of them. We're about due to hear something.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully you will be hearing from or talking to Diana this week with some news of how things are going. Let us know if you hear from the kids too!
